Good governance, learned at the bedside.

Three decades in health, from the ward to running a health service. Now on the boards where care, cost and conscience meet.

The path

From the bedside to the boardroom.

The judgement she brings to a board was not learned in a governance course. It was learned one decision at a time, in the places those decisions are actually felt.

Where it started

At the bedside

Trained as a doctor and spent years on the ward, where she learned what a decision costs a patient, and not only what it costs a budget.

Taking responsibility

Running the department

Led a clinical department, then a division. The first time care and cost landed on the same desk, and hers was the signature.

The whole system

Chief Executive

Ran a metropolitan health service. She had made the call at the bedside; now she signed off the budget that funded it, and lived with both.

Now

At the board table

A non-executive director, bringing the ward's-eye view to the room where the decisions that shape care are finally made, and often abstracted.

“You can audit a hospital's books all day. The real question is whether you would send your own mother there.”

Where she is genuinely useful to a board.

Quality & safety

The difference between a policy that looks safe on paper and a ward that is actually safe. She has run both, and knows which one a patient feels.

Systems that hold

How a health system behaves under pressure, and where it quietly fails the people it is meant to serve, long before that shows up in a report.

Care and its cost

The hard trade-offs between what a service can afford and what a patient deserves, made honestly and explained plainly.

What a chair said
“Amara asks the question everyone else in the room is avoiding, and asks it kindly. A board is simply safer with her at the table.”

Always glad to talk.

A short, regular piece on quality, safety and the choices a health board carries, written with her and published here, so a committee reads her judgement, not just her titles.

From Dossier

One director. One identity. Never a template.

This is a sample, written and designed around one person: how Amara thinks, and how a board should read her. Yours would be built the same way, from your own record and in your own voice, and quietly kept current as your search moves. We do the work. You approve; we manage.
