The Profile Growth & consumer Melbourne

The customer belongs in the boardroom.

Two decades building consumer brands and the businesses behind them. Now on the boards deciding what those businesses become next.

Camille Zhao
Camille Zhao · a sample director, for the profile

A growth operator who reads a P&L and a customer with the same fluency.

Camille spent two decades building consumer brands and the customer businesses behind them, most recently as chief growth officer of a national retail group. She reads a P&L and a customer with the same fluency, and she is drawn to the boardroom because the decisions that shape brand, customer and digital increasingly sit there.

She brings the growth lens many boards are still building, and the patience to make the case for the customer without turning every meeting into a marketing pitch. She has learned that the useful contribution is rarely the loudest one, and that a board hears an operator best when the operator has done the reading first.

“Boards are excellent at the numbers and strangely shy about the people who create them.”

In her words

Three questions.

What do most boards get wrong about growth?
They treat it as a line to defend rather than a thing to build. Growth is a set of choices about brand, price and customer, and those choices belong in the room, not buried in a quarterly update.
So where does the customer actually belong?
In the conversation before the numbers, not after them. By the time a customer shift shows up in the P&L, the decision that mattered was usually made a year earlier, by someone who was paying attention.
Purpose, or profit?
A false choice, and most boards know it. The useful question is where purpose actually pays and where it quietly costs. I am happy to be the person who asks it out loud.
She's good at

What she brings to the table.

Brand & growth
Building brands that compound, and the pricing, channel and portfolio calls that turn attention into durable revenue.
Customer & digital
Reading customer behaviour and the economics of digital, so a board can tell a real shift from a passing one.
Purpose that pays
Purpose that shows up in the P&L, not only the annual report. B Corp, ESG, and the trade-offs that make them real.

From Dossier

One director. One identity. Never a template.

This is a sample, written and designed around one person: how Camille thinks, and how a board should read her. Yours would be built the same way, from your own record and in your own voice, and quietly kept current as your search moves. We do the work. You approve; we manage.
